J22 Adult Lessons
New this summer!
The Wayzata Community Sailing Center is now offering lessons for adults. Taught safely in J22 keelboats, WCSC is proud to offer classes that will follow the US Sailing Keelboat Training Curriculum. Adults of all ages can now learn the basics of sailing right here in Wayzata.
The Basic Keelboat class is 15 hours of hands on instruction. Upon completion, students will be able to sail a day-sailor or small keelboat on inland waters in moderate conditions.
The Basic Keelboat curriculum includes:
- Sailing Terminology
- Parts of the Sailboat
- Rigging and Unrigging the boat

- Weather and Wind Directions
- Steering at all Points of Sail
- Crewing at all positions
- Leaving and Returning to a Dock and Mooring Buoy
- Basic Right of Way Rules
- Knots and Lines
- Overboard Recovery Methods
Classes are offered in two week sessions with classes on Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday with a make-up or review day on Friday from 6:00 - 8:30 PM. Students must bring their own lifejackets. The classes will be using two J22 keelboats with three or four students and one instructor on each boat.
