501(c)3 Community Sailing Center
Our financial model of loss and donation is intentional. Wayzata Sailing's has earned a sales and property tax exemption by annually returning over 20% of our fee based income in outreach, adaptive, and scholarship opportunities. Additionally all camps are offered at a reduced rate, and scholarships are available for any of our offerings at any time. With this shortfall, where is the money made up to survive? We ask that those who are able to support financially do so, in the range that works for them.
Access & Equipment
Minnesota's lakes are increasingly privately held. Over 97% of Minnetonka's shoreline is private residences. While boat public landings provide limited access, they don't provide the equipment or expertise to enjoy the lakes without additional costs to users. This includes adaptations for sailors to participate, equipment to share, and a place to learn. Wayzata Sailing's goal is to create both community access, and community, on the shores of Wayzata Bay regardless of income, race, creed, or ability.
Community
Community means something bigger to be a part of. While we create a network of sailors and families, our organization looks outward. From volunteering nationally with national bodies like US Sailing and ISSA, to managing instructor training for MN and WI, we support sailing holistically. We're more than a sailing community though, we're a lake community. We prioritize local business partners, support and host civic events, and teach environmental literacy to protect the community assets we enjoy.
